This American Life had an earlier show that explains the basics of subprime loans. It was aired on 5/12/2008 and the episode was called The Giant Pool of Money. Both This American Life and Planet Money can be found on iTunes.

I’m a regular listener to the “This American Life” podcast series – and the Giant Pool of Money episode was great. They also did a follow up about the current SEC Chairman (a regulator who doesn’t believe in regulation) – which was also very interesting. Checking out Planet Money now!
