That was fun

I’ve been on a break from OSCU for the past two months (and if I’m being honest, I began my break long before that). The time away has convinced me that it’s probably best for me to step away permanently and let the boys at Trabian take the reins.
Not to get all gooshy, but I don’t know what I’d do without the conversations and friendships that have happened as a result of this blog. I’m lucky, and grateful.
I’m looking forward to talking more ideas and get into shenanigans with many of you in the future.
And I’ll still be scampering around the web at my blog, design studio, and on twitter.
Hope to talk to you soon.

Brent, it’s been one heckuv an amazing ride. You will be missed here. Thanks for shaking things up. Keep on shaking…
I’ve enjoyed your curiosity, passion, humor, and friendship. I’m optimistic that the end of this chapter of your life won’t affect these things at all. Thank you for all you have done for credit unions and, more selfishly, my career. You’re definitely the type of guy who wonders “why not?” I agree.
Thanks very much, Mr Partee & Mr Warrior. Can’t wait till the next time we run into each other.
Separately: “Mr. Party” & “Mr. Warrior” sound like the protagonist/antagonist of a fantastic kids’ book.
Brent,
I heard about this post on Twitter. Seems like we’re all out there now – but I remember back in the day (which according to Dane Cook was a Wednesday) when you and Trey would always kick up dust here.
This is where it all started in my opinion. The boys at Trabian were the Pied Pipers of Social Media, luring all of the credit unions – oh wait, I just looked up that story on Wikipedia. That’s disgusting! I thought it had a happy ending?! Never mind.
Anyway – I haven’t missed you here cuz I’ve been stalking you in Brooklyn. Um, er, I mean – I’ve enjoyed having you as my neighbor and well, I gotta go.
PS – I like the shirt you’re wearing today.
Here’s to the next adventure.
Cheers.
Well done Brent. I have you and Trey to thank for piquing my interest in social media way back when. You really are one of the original pioneers and really started the ball rolling for credit unions. You should be really proud of your work here. Keep on rocking.
Denise, Shari, and Tim,
I really appreciate your kind words (Denise, I think your words are kind). I’ll love continuing to watch all of you make your big, gigantic marks on this industry.
Cheers right back at you.
Sometimes you start with one journey in mind and end up on a completely different one. I think the controvesy surrounding the “rapping superbowl spot” and how it drove traffic to this site in it’s early days is a lesson in social media all by itself (at least it was to me). And I remember a Brent Dixon who banged the gong tirelessly that Social Media would replace absolutely EVERYTHING, which of course hasn’t quite happened (yet!). Yup, we disagreed on a lot of things, but in the process we ALL learned a whole lot about social media. And a little bit about how Credit Unions work, too.
Good luck out there and keep fighting the good fight everyday!
Thanks very much, Ed. The Superbowl spot was a great conversation piece that ended up sparking strong relationships.
On social media, more than planning for a takeover, I just really believe that companies that can find ways to act more like humans will succeed and serve better than those that don’t. That could happen through great creative, social media, finding new ways to listen and react, or simply making a conscious decision to stay small and focused.
Don’t think of it as one replacing the other, think of it as two things converging to make something shiny and new.
Also, I still hope we get to meet in person one day.
If order to get to know better the visitors of your blog , why dont you share your twitter and facebook accounts. There is risk to get a bit of spammers , but would be easier for us to get in touch with you.
